Vakataka Dynasty existed in during the fourth–sixth centuries.
Ancestral territory of the Central Indian dynasty was in the heart
of contemporary India.
The Vakataka dynasty reached its pinnacle during the fourth
and sixth centuries, when they ruled over the majority of the Deccan plateau.
The Vakataka monarch Rudrasena II married Prabhavati Gupta
at the start of the fifth century, forming a marital alliance with the northern
Indian Gupta dynasty that gave the two kingdoms influence over most of India.
Following Rudrasena's unexpected death, Prabhavati Gupta
reigned as regent, and the Vakataka kingdom became a virtual part of the Gupta
empire, although the Vakatakas recovered more autonomy later.
