Festival occurring on
the seventh day of the bright (waxing) half of the lunar month of Shravan
(July–August), celebrating the birthday of the medieval devotional (bhakti)
poet-saint Tulsidas (1532–1623).
Tulsidas wrote a variety of works and is one of the rare
medieval poet-saints who is thought to have been literate and to have written
down his work.
The Ramcharitmanas, a vernacu lar retelling of the epic
Ramayana, is his most famous work.
