In the Mandakini River valley in the Garhwal area of the
Himalayas, fifteen miles down from Kedarnath, there is a village and a holy
spot (tirtha).
Triyuginarayan is located on the crest of a mountain,
surrounded by forest.
The main temple at Triyuginarayan is dedicated to the deity
Vishnu in his form as Narayana, and in front of it is a pit where a fire is
supposed to have been blazing for three cosmic eras (triyugi).
