Trishiras is a demon
friend of Ravana, the demon-king of Lanka, in the Ramayana, the older of the
two major Hindu epics.
Trishiras launches a frontal assault on the deity Rama, the
epic's protagonist, with Ravana's brothers, Khara and Dushana.
The act is a retaliation for Ravana's sister Shurpanakha's
mutilation at the hands of Rama's brother Lakshmana.
Despite being a brave warrior, Trishiras, like Khara and
Dushana, is finally murdered by Rama.
Ravana chooses to exact retribution by kidnapping Rama's
wife Sita when such frontal assaults fail to persuade him that Rama is too
strong to slay in fight.
