Tiruvalluvar, (5th–6th centuries). The author of the
Tirukkural, one of the most significant works of early Tamil literature,
according to legend.
The Tirukkural is a compilation of concise poems about
religious, social, and moral life that are grouped by topics.
Many of these epigrams have become commonplace phrases in
Tamil, and they have become the cultural property of Tamils of all faiths.
