The city of Cauvery is located on the Cauvery River in Tamil
Nadu's central region, and it is the capital of the same-named district.
The city's strategic location made it a target for numerous
southern Indian dynasties, the most recent of which were the Madurai Nayaks,
who erected a magnificent fort on a stone outcrop in the city's center.
The huge temples of Shrirangam and Jambukeshvar, located on
an island in the Cauvery River north of the city, are the city's most
recognized attractions.
