Hinduism - Who Are The Thakur Kshatriyas Of Northern India?

(“master”) Traditional Indian society was modeled around a collection of endogamous subgroups known as jatis ("birth").

These were endogamous subgroups (i.e., groupings in which marriages happened exclusively between members of the same group).

The group's hereditary occupation, over which each group held a monopoly, organized (and determined) the social standing of these jatis.

The Thakurs were a jati regarded to be kshatriyas in northern India, who have historically served as landowners and village authorities.

Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Laureate, was its most renowned member.
