(14th c.) The author
of the Hammira mahakavya, a Sanskrit play about the defeat and death of Rajput
monarch Hammira in 1301 at the hands of Delhi sultan Alauddin Khilji.
This drama is important because Nayachandra Suri was a Jain
monk, in addition to its historical significance.
Despite their stringent monastic lifestyle, which seems to
keep them off from the rest of the world, Jain monks have a long history of
strong involvement with intellectual and literary culture.
