"Sulva Sutras ("measurement aphorisms") A collection of short sayings outlining the particular procedures for building sacrificial altars for public Vedic sacrifices.
The Shrauta Sutras were linked to the Sulva Sutras, which
spelled forth the ceremonial prescriptions for these ceremonies, including the
evident need of site preparation.
Given the assumption that the sacrifice would be ineffective
unless it was carried out perfectly, such meticulous attention to the altar's
structure seems to be a necessary result.
