One of the two main lineages in Hindu mythology, the other
being the Lunar Line.
The Solar Line may be traced all the way down to Ikshvaku,
the Sun's grandson.
Many of the main characters in the Ramayana, the older of
the two major Indian epics, are descended from it.
Rama himself is one among their descendants.
The rulers of several of Rajasthan's minor erstwhile
princely kingdoms claimed lineage from the Solar Line in order to establish and
sustain their regal power.
Many of these royal families still exist, even if they no
longer have governmental authority, and so this lineage is seen to be still
intact.
