A guru from Hindu mythology whose life narrative maintains
the conventional idea of life's four phases (ashramas).
Shuka, the sage Vyasa's son, was born after Vyasa had a
seminal discharge after viewing a heavenly nymph (apsara) in the guise of a
parrot.
Shuka had a strong desire to never marry since he was a
child, yet despite extensive spiritual study, he was unable to find
companionship.
He ultimately made his way to the sage-king Janaka, who told
Shuka that renunciation should only be considered after he had married and
reared a family.
Shuka returned to his father and lived the life of a house
holder; later in life, he resumed renunciation and achieved complete
realization.
