Shrishaila ("sacred mountain")
Sacred mountain in the heart of Andhra Pradesh, around 185
miles south of Hyderabad and slightly east of Visakhapatnam.
The location is rural and difficult to access, yet it is
known for a temple dedicated to the deity Shiva as Malli karjuna, "[Lord]
White as Jasmine."
The Mallikarjuna linga is one of the twelve jyotirlingas, a
network of sites deemed especially sacred to Shiva and at which Shiva is
uniquely present.
Shiva's image as Mallikarjuna is in the form of a linga, the
pillar-shaped image that is his symbolic form, and the Mallikarjuna linga is
