Shiwalik Hills are located in the Himalaya mountain range, in
India.
The Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and
Jammu and Kashmir are surrounded by Himalayan foothills.
The hills serve as an ecological link between the plains and
the mountains, but they also have their own religious ecology.
While Shiva is frequently identified with spots high in the
Himalayas, the Goddess is associated with the Shiwaliks' principal holy sites
(tirthas).
