("learning") is a Hindi word that
means "to learn." Especially one of the six Vedangas.
These were supplementary branches of knowledge associated
with the Vedas, the earliest Hindu sacred books, and all Vedangas were linked
to their usage.
Shiksha is interested in articulation, accurate
pronunciation, and the principles of euphonic combination (sand hi), or the
combining of sounds in a certain manner to produce a pleasing result.
Although this may seem little, it was a major issue in the
Brahmana literature's sacrificial religion.
This was because the efficacy of these sacrifices was seen
to be contingent on the accurate delivery of the Vedic mantras, with any error
posing a risk of devastation.
Vya karana (Sanskrit grammar), chandas (Sanskrit prosody),
kalpa (ritual instructions), nirukta (etymology), and jyotisha are the other
Vedangas (favorable times for sacrifices).
