Shabara was the first
and most notable commentator on Jaimini's Mimamsa Sutras, the school's
foundational scripture, in the Purva Mimamsa school of Hindu philosophy.
Shabara bhashya is the name of the commentary.
The text's date is unknown, however it is thought to be from
the first century B.C.E. to the fourth or sixth century C.E.
Later commentators, as is common, regarded Shabara's
commentary as part of the text and remarked on it alongside the original
sutras.
