Satsang is a Sanskrit word that means "meeting."
("the nice company") Quasi-congregational worship and gatherings that
were stressed in devotional (bhakti) religious life as a method to connect with
other devotees (bhakta).
The term encompasses a wide variety of activities and
circumstances, ranging from a casual gathering in someone's house for singing
and chat to highly organized assemblies in which a guru may lecture to hundreds
of followers, and everything in between.
The significance of satsang in all of these circumstances
resides in the pleasant religious environment created by the presence of good
individuals, which is seen to have positive consequences in terms of
strengthening one's own good qualities and rectifying one's flaws.
