The eleventh day (ekadashi) of the dark (waxing) half of the
lunar month Paush (December–January) is a religious observance.
The eleventh-day observances are all dedicated to Vishnu
worship.
Most Hindu religious festivals have prescribed rites, which
usually include fasting (upavasa) and worship, and often promise specific benefits
if performed faithfully.
Those performing this rite must sing and tell stories about
Vishnu's exploits all night.
The name Saphala means "successful," and those who
follow it religiously will be successful in everything they do.
