Sankat Mochan - A temple devoted to the monkey-god Hanuman
in his incarnation as Sankat Mochan in the southern portion of Benares.
The temple does not have a lengthy history, but it rose to
prominence in the nineteenth century as a result of the devotion of several
Ramanandiascetics who lived there.
The temple has gained popularity in recent times because the
image of Hanuman is seen to be both powerful and approachable—qualities that
encourage petitioners to come with requests and depart with the certainty that
aid would be forthcoming.
