Sankat Mochan ("relieving distress") - The name of
a specific version of the monkey deity Hanuman, whose primary temple is located
in Benares' southern district.
Since the 1970s, Sankat Mochan has become a more popular
version of Hanuman.
Sankat Mochan, like other Hanuman forms, is regarded as a
powerful protector god capable of rescuing his worshippers (bhakta) from all
types of affliction and tragedy.
