Saguna is a word
that has a lot of different meanings.
("with characteristics") Distinguishing traits in
something.
It refers to certain deities with specific traits in the
context of thoughts about divinity.
Any manifestation of a god with qualities is considered as
ultimately inferior to the unqualified (nirguna) Brahman in religious
traditions founded on the principles of the Upanishads, the theoretical works
that are the last volumes in the Vedas.
Certain theistic traditions, such as the Gaudiya Vaishnava
religious group, are fiercely opposed to this notion, insisting that the
ultimate god, in this instance Krishna, has a specific form (and thus certain
qualities).
