Sabarmati is a river
in north western India that begins in the Aravalli Hills in Rajasthan and runs south
to the Gulf of Cambay in Gujarat.
It is well known as the location of the Sabarmati Ashram,
which is located across the river from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
After returning from South Africa in 1915, Mohandas K. Gandhi
lived in the Sabarmati Ashram for sixteen years.
From this ashram, he coordinated most of the campaign for
Indian independence.
