("Lord of the Animals") Deity identified as the creator of the cosmos and considered superior to the Vedic deities, who appears late in the Vedas, the oldest Hindu holy books.
The methods through which Prajapati performs creation vary
depending on where he is.
He is depicted as the Golden Embryo from which all things
evolved in Rg Veda 10.121, and as the primordial person (purusha) who is
sacrificed by the gods and from whose parts the universe develops in Rg 10.90,
also known as the Purusha Sukta.
In later Hindu tradition, the word Prajapati may also allude
to the deity Brahma, the creator of the uni verse, or the gods Vishnu or Shiva,
the ultimate deities of the world.
