A mythological sage
in Hindu mythology who is the grandson of the sage Vasishtha.
He is recognized with writing the Parashara Smrti, a seminal
work in the field of dharma literature.
Parashara is well known for being the father of the sage
Vyasa, whom he fathers via Satyavati, a girl.
Satyavati is a lovely young lady who earns a fortune
ferrying people over the Ganges River, but she constantly smells like fish
since her mother is a heavenly nymph doomed to dwell as a fish in the Ganges.
Parashara, smitten by Satyavati's beauty while ferrying him
over the river, constructs an artificial fog to provide them the seclusion they
need to have sexual relations.
As a gift, he grants her the benefit of smelling like musk
instead of fish from that day forward.
