Papankusha Ekadashi is a religious holiday observed on the
eleventh day (ekadashi) of the bright (waxing) half of the lunar month Ashvin (September–October).
It is devoted to the worship of Vishnu, as are other
eleventh-day observances.
Most Hindu holidays have mandated rituals, which generally
include fasting (upavasa) and devotion (puja), and frequently promise
particular rewards if performed correctly.
The name of this ekadashi signifies that it is the goad
(ankusha) that is used to drive away all evil (pap), which is shown here as an
elephant.
As a result, it is said that diligently honoring this event
would purify one of all sins.
