Hinduism - Who Is Nirriti In The Hindu Pantheon?

("decay, annihilation") Nirriti is a deity and Goddess personifying all the terrible parts of existence in the Vedas, the oldest and most authoritative Hindu holy literature.

Nirriti's personality isn't well-defined since she's only mentioned a few times; the hymns that do reference her typically express hope that she'll stay away and keep the speakers safe from calamity.

See David R. Kinsley's Hindu Deities, 1986, for further information about Nirriti and all the Hindu goddesses.
