(“pestle”) A musala is a grain husking and grinding pestle that is used in conjunction with a mortar.
Spices were ground in miniature versions.
The musala's long, club-like design may easily be used as a
weapon in addition to its utilitarian usage.
It appears with pictures of numerous deities, including the
Goddess, Shiva, and Vishnu, and is one of the most distinctive things in Hindu
iconography.
