Mithila is the
kingdom ruled by King Janaka, the goddess Sita's foster father, in the
Ramayana, the earlier of the two great Indian epics.
The region is associated with the Mithila region in
modern-day Bihar, which is known for its wealth as well as the righteousness of
its rulers.
