(early 14th c.) Lokacharya Pillai, the founder of the Tengalai branch of the Shrivaishnava religious group, was a religious leader.
Acharya is a Sanskrit word that means "teacher". Shrivaishnavas are worshippers of the deity Vishnu (bhakta).
The Tengalais have no reliance in human abilities, stressing
the need of the devotee's complete submission to God's mercy, which is the only
way to salvation.
