Pancha Gauda is one
of the five northern brahmin communities (the others being Gauda, Maithila,
Utkala, and Saraswat).
Kanaujia brahmins may trace their ancestors back to Kanauj.
Kanaujia brahmins are most common in the eastern part of the
state of Uttar Pradesh, around Kanauj; subgroups may also be found in Bihar,
Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and the interior parts of Orissa.
