Kautilya is said to
be the author of the Arthashastra ("Treatise on Authority"), a
treatise that serves as a guide on the use of royal power.
The king depicted in the Arthashastra is unconcerned about
goals or aspirations, preferring to do whatever it takes to stay in power.
Kautilya is widely known as the Machiavellian brahmin
minister who planned Chandragupta Maurya's ascent to power, however there are
substantial questions that both Kautilyas are the same person.
