(colloquial for "club") One of the distinguishing things held by the deity Vishnu in Hindu iconography, along with the conch shell (shankha), lotus (padma), and discus (chakra).
The gada is also the weapon of choice for Bhima, one of the five Pandava brothers who are the epic's heroes, in the Mahabharata, the latter of the two major Hindu epics.
Bhima is the biggest and strongest of the five brothers, which provides him a clear edge when it comes to wielding the gada.
