domestic [rites]") Many religious Hindus still maintain the later
ceremonies, which cover the period from birth through the memorial offerings
after death, albeit the procedures have changed over time.
In principle, a Grhya Sutra should be part of a Kalpa Sutra
that also includes instructions for Vedic ceremonies (Shrauta Sutras) and
proper human conduct (Dharma Sutras).
In truth, this does not always seem to be the case, since
there are at least six more Grhya Sutras outside the three full Kalpa Sutras,
showing that these books were produced independently.
