A hand gesture
(hasta) in which the tips of the fingers are loosely connected to the thumb to
form a ring (the term kataka literally means "bracelet") in Indian dance,
sculpture, and ritual.
This hasta is often seen in Hindu goddess depictions, but it
also has a practical purpose: a new flower may be put into her palm every day.
