Tarjini hasta is the term for a hand gesture (hasta) in
Indian dance, sculpture, and ritual in which the hand is closed save for the
index finger, which is pointed upward as if to reprimand or punish the
spectator.
The term tarjini comes from a verb that may mean "to
threaten" or "to censure," both of which are implied by this
gesture.
