(“assertion”) A portion in Indian logic that takes the form of an inference (anumana), or logical assertion.
An inference is defined by three terms: an assertion
(pratijna), a rationale (hetu), and instances (examples) (drshtanta).
Each of these three components has its own set of
constituents.
The paksha and the sadhya are the two constituent elements
of the pratijna.
The paksha is the assertion's topic and refers to a category
of objects, while the sadhya is the claim to be proved concerning that
category.
