When the new moon
(amavasya) occurs on a Monday, a religious observance is observed, which may
occur in any month of the year.
The sun and moon travel together during daylight hours on
the new moon day, and when this occurs on Monday, when the moon is the ruling
planet, this confluence is considered very beneficial.
Another fortunate link is that Monday's ruling deity, the
god Shiva, has legendary links with the moon.
