Dabistan-I-Mazahib ("School of Manners") is a phrase that means "School of Manners."
The oldest thorough description of the Sikhs, as well as many other modern religious groups, comes from an outside source.
Muhsin Fani is typically credited with writing the text.
Fani was a Persian who went across most of northern India, presumably driven only by his desire to learn about the country's many religious practices.
The work is particularly unusual for its apparent lack of authorial bias— Fani claims that he just transcribed what his friends and informants told him, and the tone of the Dabistan appears to support this assertion.
The Dabistan, or School of Manners, 1843, is a translation of the work by David Shea and Anthony Troyer.
