Bhasmasur is a demon with tremendous strength but little intellect in Hindu mythology.
Bhasmasur is said to have been granted the ability by the deity Shiva to turn anybody into ash (bhasma) merely by putting his palm on their head.
- Bhasmasur is smitten with Shiva's wife Parvati and tries to put his palm on Shiva's head, forcing the deity to escape.
- When the deity Vishnu fools Bhasmasur into placing his palm on top of his own head, he is immediately transformed into ash.
- Bhasmasur, in metaphorical use, refers to any issue that has gotten out of control due to a lack of foresight.
