Osiris, the deity of the dead, had an ancient sacred city.
- It is located 200 miles north of Luxor and was formerly the home of an even earlier funerary deity before Osiris arrived.
- Kings were ecstatic to pay tribute to the site, and people traveled from all across Egypt to inter their ashes in its hallowed ground, expecting to gain more renown in the hereafter.
- The faithful were aware of the precise site of Osiris' tomb.
