A beginner of the monastic society known as the Naths, who are worshippers of the deity Shiva (bhakta).
- An aughar has been introduced into the Naths and has adopted their austere lifestyle, but he has yet to get his ultimate initiation.
- The cartilage in the novice's ears is pierced in this last ceremony so that the enormous earrings that are one of the Nath community's distinguishing features may be inserted.
