Hinduism - Who Are The Ashvins?

Satya and Dasya are twin gods who are the sons of Surya (the Sun) and the gods' doctors.

  • The Ashvins are the heavenly fathers of the Pandava twins, Nakula and Sahadeva, in the Mahabharata, the later of the two major Hindu epics.
  • When their mother, Madri, performs a magical mantra that allows a woman to have a child by any of the gods, Nakula and Sahadeva are born;
  • Being the sons of heavenly doctors, the epic depicts these twins as possessing their fathers' capacity to heal.
  • The month of Ashvin (October–November) in the Hindu lunar calendar is dedicated to them.
