Avadhi is a language that is spoken in two ways.
- Avadhi is a literary dialect of ancient Hindi (and a sister language of Braj Bhasha) spoken in the eastern portion of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the area around Ayodhya (Avadh).
- It is known as the language in which poet-saint Tulsidas (1532–1623?) composed the Ramcharitmanas, a vernacular version of the Ramayana.
In terms of linguistics, Avadhi is one of the current standard Hindi dialects spoken in the same area.
- Although it has some resemblance to Tulsidas' language, it has developed from it.
