Near the city of Aligarh in the contemporary state of Uttar Pradesh, there is an architectural site known as Atranji Khera.
- Excavations in Atranji Khera have uncovered an old urban center from the second millennium B.C.E.
- Although the towns here were not as advanced as those in the Indus Valley civilization, they are thought to be separate from it and therefore another possible source of ancient Indian culture.
