Ashadh is the fourth month of the lunar year, typically occurring between June and July, according to the lunar calendar, which is used to commemorate major Hindu religious events.
- This is typically the warmest month of the year in northern India.
- Yogini Ekadashi, the Rath Yatra, Devshayani Ekadashi, and Guru Purnima are the most important festivals of Ashadh.
- The commencement of the Chaturmas Vrat is also marked as Devshayani Ekadashi.
- This is a four-month (lunar) period that corresponds to the rainy season in most cases.
- Because the deity Vishnu is thought to be “sleeping” at this time, the period is deemed unlucky.
