- A monster created from the darkness that emerges when the goddess Parvati playsfully covers her husband Shiva's eyes with her hands, according to Hindu legend.
- Because he emerges from the abyss, Shiva gives him the name Andhaka.
- Despite numerous remonstrances that contacting another man's wife is inappropriate, Andhaka lusts for Parvati and pursues her.
- He eventually makes it to Shiva's abode on Mount Kailas, where he is killed by the deity.
