Anasuya is the wife of the sage Atri in Hindu mythology.
- The gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva ask Anasuya to assist them on many occasions.
- The sun has been cursed by a lady called Silavati, and the animals of the earth are in great misery.
- Anasuya persuades Silavati to lift her curse, and the three gods express their appreciation by telling her she may ask for whatever she wishes.
Anasuya asks that each of her sons be born as one of her sons, which is granted:
- Vishnu is born as Dattatreya, Shiva is born as Durvasas, and Brahma is born as Chandra.
