Ashirvad literally means “benedictory formula”. Words of benediction, whether official or informal, are referred to by this phrase.
- One of the fundamental tenets of Hinduism is that some spiritually strong individuals, particularly ascetics and educated brahmins, have the ability to bestow blessings and curses at whim.
- Both blessings and curses are said to occur instantly and without fail, which is why a wise person would always treat ascetics and educated brahmins with the respect they deserve.
