The son of King Sagar and his wife Keshini, according to Hindu legend.
- Keshini has been granted a blessing that she will have just one son through whom the royal dynasty would continue, while Sumati will bear sixty thousand sons, all of whom will die before they marry.
- Asamanjasa is that sole son, but his character is so terrible that his lineage, the Solar Line, seems to be in serious jeopardy.
- The sole mention of Asamanjasa in the Ramayana, the earlier of the two major Hindu epics, is when he tosses children into the Sarayu River and then laughs as they drown.
- Fortunately for the Solar Line, one of the two great lines, Asamanjasa's son Anshuman is a noble man, and the bloodline remains unbroken and uncorrupted.
