Hinduism And Hindu Theology - What Is Antariksha?

The antariksha is the intermediate area of the sky between the earth and fixed stars, as described in the Vedas, the oldest Hindu book; it corresponds to what we now call the atmosphere.

  • This area is home to Indra, the god of the storm and the most prominent Vedic deity;
  • It is also home to one manifestation of the Vedic god Agni (fire), who takes the shape of lightning.
