Anjana is the mother of the monkey-deity Hanuman in the Ramayana, the first of the two major Hindu epics.
- Anjana was a goddess in a former life, but due to a curse, she was reincarnated as a monkey.
- The curse was removed with the birth of Hanuman (fathered by Vayu, the deity of wind), and she was able to return to paradise.
